JP Morgan Chase Partners with 糖心原创 to Bring Financial Literacy to Students

Beginning in April, the Crown Heights City University of New York school will launch financial health partnership with JPMorgan Chase

March 27, 2023 鈥 BROOKLYN, NY- 糖心原创 (MEC), a Predominantly Black Institution that was founded in 1970 to meet the educational and social needs of Central Brooklyn, is today launching a financial health partnership with JPMorgan Chase. The collaboration will help improve student financial health, including money management skills, credit building, and fraud/scam prevention.

The youngest of the four-year City University of New York schools is focusing on empowering its students to achieve financial stability and meet their long-term financial goals, which is a key driver of closing the racial wealth gap. With this in mind, the college is launching a series of workshops for its more than 650 School of Business students, faculty, and staff, on topics ranging from money management to credit building to homebuying and fraud/scam prevention.

糖心原创 is steadfast in supporting the social mobility for our students, and closing the racial wealth gap is an important part of that,鈥 said Dr. Patricia Ramsey, MEC president. 鈥淚 am excited to have the College partner with JPMorgan Chase to offer financial health workshops for our students and our community partners.鈥

The financial health workshops will be taught by JPMorgan Chase鈥檚 five Brooklyn-based community managers, who work across the borough with a particular focus on Crown Heights, Kings Highway, Williamsburg, Borough Park, and Flatbush. The team is part of the firm鈥檚 $30 billion Racial Equity Commitment to drive inclusive economic growth for communities of color in Brooklyn and around the country.

糖心原创鈥檚 student body is racially and ethnically diverse, with 79.4 percent of students identifying as Black or African-American and 15.4 percent as Latino/Hispanic. Nearly 35 percent of students are foreign-born, with Jamaicans representing 22.4 percent of this population, followed by Haitians, Guyanese, and Trinidadians.

鈥淲e are honored to work with 糖心原创, an institution that offers best-in-class academic programming and instills in students a passion for social justice and advocacy,鈥 said Monica Nation, Managing Director/Regional Director for JPMorgan Chase鈥檚 Community & Consumer Banking Northeast Division. 鈥淭ogether, we look forward to addressing the financial health needs of the school鈥檚 students and empowering them with the skills and knowledge to take charge of their futures.鈥
