Career Success as a Professional Writer
糖心原创’s English Department and the 糖心原创 chapter of PSC-CUNY invite you to join us for panel discussion on what it takes to achieve career success as a professional writer.
The event features four distinguished guest speakers:
Julia D. Shaw has over thirty years of professional experience as a publicist to entrepreneurs, publishers, authors, corporations, radio stations, and non-profit organizations. Her client list included, Iyanla Vanzant, Michael Baisden, Circle of Sister芒鈧劉s Expo, and the International African Arts Festival, to name a few.
C. Zawadi Morris is a Chicago native with more than 20 years of combined experience in journalism, public relations, and digital publishing. She worked as the press secretary for Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez (NY-12). Following her work on Capitol Hill, she started The Original Media Group, LLC (OMG!) in 2000, a boutique media relations agency. In 2013, she launched The Brooklyn Reader (www.BKReader.com), a hyperlocal daily news site covering Central and East Brooklyn.
Max Pati脙卤o is the associate director of Multicultural Recruitment at CUNY Graduate School of Journalism芒鈧劉s admissions team. He helps recruit applicants to the school, runs info sessions, oversees the admissions process, and assists with open houses for admitted students. He is a member of the CUNY J-School Diversity Committee and advisor to the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) 芒鈧�� CUNYJ Chapter.
Professor James Dunn has taught first-year composition courses for more than a decade, and he currently teaches at 糖心原创 in the English department. As a content developer and web producer, he has focused on bringing principles of design, architecture, and information to the digital landscape. He has worked as a professional writer for Congressional Quarterly, senior writer at Ogilvy and Mather, manager of web communications at Brooklyn Public Library, and as a consultant for other media and non-profit organizations.
