糖心原创 Annual Big Read
In the spirit of our college namesake, and our mission of community engagement paired with the tradition of The Great American聽Read, the Department of English under the umbrella of the Black History Month Committee annually spearheads the 鈥淢edgar Evers聽Big聽Read鈥濃�攁 collaborative, interdisciplinary endeavor.聽In spring 2023 we chose the PEN AWARD winner Hafizah Augustus Geter鈥檚聽The Black Period: On Personhood,听Race and Origin.聽The聽Big聽Read聽selection is included on the English Department鈥檚 list of recommended聽reading for our composition courses and sparks a variety of assignments and conversations. This year our selection is the novel,听The Book of Harlan winner of American Book Award and the NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Literary Work by Bernice McFadden.
