Medgar Wiley Evers Leadership Lecture Series: Dr. Daniel Black
At 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30 in the EOJ Auditorium, Dr. Daniel Black, a professor of African American Studies at Clark Atlanta University, will help us conclude our uber-popular Medgar Wiley Evers Leadership Lecture Series.
A bit more about Dr. Black:
Dr. Black is a nationally renowned, award-winning novelist. His works are inspired by聽African American聽life, history, and heritage in the South and encompass themes of race, religion, and sexuality. Daniel Black was born on November 28, 1965, in Kansas City, Kansas, but grew up in Arkansas.
Among his literary works are聽They Tell Me of a Home聽(2005),聽The Sacred Place聽(2007),聽Perfect Peace聽(2010),聽Twelve Gates to the City聽(2011),聽The Coming聽(2015), and聽Listen to the Lambs聽(2016) 鈥� all published by St. Martin鈥檚 Press. Black has been nominated for the Townsend Literary Prize, the Ernest J. Gaines Award, the Ferro-Grumley Literary Prize, the Lambda Literary Award, and the Georgia Author of the Year Prize; in addition, he was awarded the Writer鈥檚 Award from the Middle-Atlantic Writers Association.
One of Dr. Black鈥檚 most noted works is聽Perfect Peace.
Dr. Black鈥檚聽The Coming, which was released in 2015, is a first-person account of the trauma and triumph of Africans on a聽slave聽ship in the sixteenth century.
