About the Episode
In this rebroadcast, Dr. Brenda Greene interviews writer Donna Hill, a multipublished author. They discuss her recent novel,听Confessions in B-Flat聽(Sideways, 2020), an emotional love story of two characters who hold conflicting ideologies during the Civil Rights Movement. Greene and Hill鈥檚 discussion focuses on her rationale for penning this work, the themes in the novel, and the relevance of these themes for the current Black Lives Matter and social justice movements. Hill also discusses her writing process, how this process transfers to ways to engage students in reading and writing literature, and her future writing projects.
About the Guest
Donna Hill is a multigenre author with more than 90 titles to her credit. Hill is considered one of the early pioneers of the African American romance genre and has also written mysteries and contemporary women鈥檚 fiction. She has more than 70 novels, 20 short stories, and edited multiple anthologies; and three of her novels have been adapted for television. Her most recent novel is聽Confessions in B-Flat聽(2020). Hill has been featured in聽Essence, the聽New York Daily News,听USA Today,听Today鈥檚 Black Woman, and聽Black Enterprise聽among many others. She has received numerous awards for her body of work鈥攚hich cross several genres鈥攊ncluding The Career Achievement Award, The Zora Neale Hurston Literary Award, and The Gold Pen Award. As an editor, she has packaged several highly successful novels, and anthologies, two of which were nominated for awards. Hill is assistant professor of Professional Writing at 糖心原创, CUNY.
