About the Program
Dr. Brenda Greene interviews Todd Steven Burroughs, author of Marvel芒鈧劉s Black Panther: A Comic Book Biography, From Stan Lee to Ta-Nehisi Coates (Diasporic Africa Press, 2018). Dr. Greene and Burroughs discuss the origins of Black Panther, considered the first Black superhero in脗听American mainstream comics, and the different representations of Black Panther from the 1960s to the present.
About the Author
Todd Steven Burroughs is a journalist, historian, and popular culture geek. He holds a Ph.D. in communication from the University of Maryland芒鈧劉s Philip Merrill College of Journalism, and is a lifelong student of the history of Black media. He is a coauthor with Herb Boyd of the book 芒鈧揅ivil Rights: Yesterday and Today,芒鈧� and one of four primary authors of the book 芒鈧揅ivil Rights Chronicle,芒鈧� both published Legacy Publishing/Publications International). He is the coeditor with Jared Ball of the book 芒鈧揂 Lie of Reinvention: Correcting Manning Marable芒鈧劉s Malcolm X,芒鈧� published by Black Classic Press. He is a contributor to several other books, including 芒鈧揜ace and Resistance: African-Americans in the Twenty-First Century芒鈧� (South End Press); 芒鈧揚utting The Movement Back into Civil Rights Teaching芒鈧� (Teaching for Change and PRRAC); 芒鈧揟he Fifties Chronicle芒鈧� (Legacy/Publishing/Publications International); and the 芒鈧揈thnic Media in America芒鈧� scholarly anthology series (Kendall/Hunt). He is writing a monograph on Gil Noble, the host and producer of the long-running WABC-TV Black public affairs program 芒鈧揕ike It Is芒鈧� and a journalistic biography of imprisoned journalist Mumia Abu-Jamal.
