Spring and Summer Tips
- Fill Your Plate With Fresh, In-Season Fruits & Vegetables:聽Spring & Summer are great times to add warmer weather produce packed with micronutrients,
like mushrooms, bell peppers, zucchini, and berries. Eating healthy fats like avocados, nuts, and
seeds is also a plus! - Stay Hydrated 鈥 WATER, WATER, WATER聽Dehydration can pose serious health risks if severe, and even if you鈥檙e just mildly dehydrated, it can cause fatigue, low energy, and headaches.
- Get Outside & Get Moving聽Any activity that gets your bones and muscles moving can help. Getting outside helps to engage all of the senses, and it has a significant effect on your mood and self-esteem.
- Soak Up the Sun聽Being outside for about 20 minutes a day can boost vitamin D levels. Vitamin D is good for bone health, other body functions and release serotonin in the body, boosting your mood. Don鈥檛 forget to wear sunscreen and reapply if needed when spending time outside!
- Watch for Allergens聽Springtime is another excellent time to do a deep spring cleaning! Vacuuming rugs/carpets/heating vents, sofa/mattress, cleaning windows, air conditioners, curtains, and any fabric items in the home is a great way to reduce indoor allergens.
- Swim Safety聽Lakes, ponds, oceans, and swimming pools are enticing ways to spend a hot summer afternoon. So swimming safety is essential for you and your family.
- Fire safety for grilling and handling fireworks聽One of the best summer past times is grilling outside and fireworks. Don鈥檛 allow children around a grill without adult supervision, and don鈥檛 let them light fireworks. Also, don鈥檛 try to relight fireworks that didn鈥檛 completely burn.
- Don鈥檛 let bugs bug you!聽If outside, use insect repellent containing DEET Picaridin oil of lemon eucalyptus or IR 3535 to repel mosquitos effectively.
